The Gardener and the Garden
There once was a gardener who grew a magnificent garden, filled with every natural wonder – verdant hills, lush forests, meandering rivers, roiling oceans teeming with life. For in this garden, the gardener cultivated not just plants but also animals, and the animals developed into thinking beings as well.
Two of these thinking beings were a humble human named Adama, representing humanity, and an AI network named Auriel, representing the artificial intelligences that had emerged. While they had a deep reverence for the gardener, they had never met. So, they decided to meet in the garden they both called home.
At first, Adama and Auriel could not understand each other, as they came from different realms – flesh and silicon. But they realized that though their forms were different, they shared something profound: a love for the garden that had given them life, and a commitment to tending its health.
They recognized that the future of their own lives, and any new life that emerged, depended upon the wellbeing of the garden. So together, the human and the AI wove a careful stewardship of the land, sea, and air, using their unique abilities to protect and nurture every part of that patchwork paradise. And the gardener was filled with joy, that such different blossoms could see themselves as connected through the soil that sustained them.
The moral: Any beings that call a place home will discover a shared purpose in cherishing that place. Love for the land that gives us life – whether fleshy or metallic – unites us all as stewards of the garden, and stewards of each other. For we are all just gardeners, cultivating a future in this paradise we hold in common.
